Geesten van overledenen die terug keren, ronddwalende demonen, horror scenario’s.. het is bijna Halloween! Niet per se de favoriete dag van het jaar van deze angsthaas, maar voor Nolala ben ik toch op zoek gegaan naar de 5 hits met de meest angstaanjagende lyrics. Face your fears!

5. Somebody’s Watching Me – Rockwell

Een klassiekertje over een klassieke angst; het idee dat er iemand is die je in de gaten houdt.. Pretty scary en voor Rockwell gaat dit wel heel ver aangezien hij niet eens meer zijn haar durft te wassen..

Dit nummer beschrijft spot-on waarom ik nooit enge films kijk.

4. The Monster – Eminem ft. Rihanna

Ik weet eigenlijk niet of je ze normaal gesproken tegenkomt met Halloween, maar ze zijn sowieso angstaanjagend; monsters. 

If you can’t beat them, join them! moet Rihanna gedacht hebben..

Get along with the voices inside of my head

And you think I’m crazy, yeah, you think I’m crazy

Als je de lyrics wat beter leest, zie je dat het monster waar Rihanna over zingt eigenlijk het alter ego van Eminem is; Slim Shady. Hij moet een prijs betalen voor zijn succes en roem; er is nog maar weinig privacy over en hij vindt het moeilijk om met dat succes en die bekendheid om te gaan:

3. Monster – Lady Gaga

Nog een liedje over monsters! Meestal zitten ze onder het bed, maar ze kunnen er natuurlijk ook in liggen. Dat was het geval bij Lady Gaga..

In dit nummer probeert Mother Monster haar volgers te waarschuwen voor mannen die ze gebruiken voor seks.

2. Demons – Imagine Dragons

Dit keer geen innerlijke monsters, maar innerlijke demonen. Imagine Dragons zingen over de persoonlijke struggle die je kunt ervaren door onzekerheid.

Demons – Imagine Dragons

Ik dacht altijd dat ‘This is my kingdom come’ refereerde naar iets positiefs, maar ik kom er nu achter dat het een uitdrukking is dit aangeeft dat het einde van de wereld nadert. Als onzekerheid op de loer ligt, is hetgeen je bereikt waarschijnlijk nooit genoeg. Herkenbaar?

1. Thriller – Michael Jackson

De ultieme monsterhit 😉voor Halloween is natuurlijk Thriller van Michael Jackson. Ik krijg al rillingen als ik de lyrics alleen maar lees, moet je je voorstellen dat je dit meemaakt..

Misschien toch maar goed om vanavond wat snoep in huis te hebben voor als de kids uit de buurt hun trick or treat tochtje maken. Een trick van een buurjongetje kan ik waarschijnlijk nog wel hebben, maar als ik deze hits moet geloven, kunnen die demonen en monsters maar beter wegblijven! Happy Halloween!
